Logan Lets Go - Why I'm here
With equal parts Letting Go and "Let's Go!"
Photo: My favorite photo from my trip to Lisbon, Portugal, 2023.
During my brief time on this planet, I will blast my brain onto some pages for the enjoyment of a great and powerful minority.
Welcome to Logan Lets Go.
I'm a writer, traveler, drummer, minimalist and a self-proclaimed subpar athlete with a peanut butter addiction.
I wrote these words, again and again. Until I decided to let them go.
I've always had a desire to help my friends - with my words. If someone I care about is struggling with a problem, I'll run home and write out my thoughts. I'll craft a potential solution, some options for him or her. And then I won't share it. Because who am I to tell anyone what to do with their life?
Only recently I realized this is abnormal behavior.
Most people have busy lives.
Too much going on to tackle the issues of another.
But what feels like work for you is fun for me. I haven't found many things in life as enjoyable as writing about common problems and strange ideas.
Then, another realization hit me - all that writing I was doing for myself.
Logan Lets Go is a project for me to share the things I write for me (and you). You might find tools to improve your life, or you'll be inspired to share with a friend. Hopefully, both!
I'm a regular dude, just like you. I'm not a licensed expert, a brilliant entrepreneur, a wise philosopher king or an inventor. I'm a curious observer. I want to leave an impact on the world using my strengths, and right now the obvious choice is to share what I write. If one reader makes a change that improves her life, we can both be proud of that.
After college, I worked as a reporter and photographer for a small-town community newspaper in Tennessee. Then I shifted into television and film production work. I've worked in the art department on hundreds of shoots for seven years and counting.
At the beginning of 2023, I experienced real work burnout for the first time. It was difficult, but I embraced it and pushed through it and kept working. This led me to seek a sabbatical. I traveled around Europe for a few months.
Now I'm back home, and I'm letting go of the things that are begging to come out.
I stopped hovering around my keyboard.
I rediscovered my love of writing.
I uncovered a long list of topics I'll write about.
Allow me to smother you with a quick glance at a few.
Let's goooooooo!
Vulnerability is a superpower
Build a wall, and you'll hide behind it. Become the wall, and the need to hide disappears.
Embrace your weirdness, weirdo
If you suppress your individuality, then you're not really you. The absurdity of life is the essence of life. Why be anyone other than you?
Creative suppression
We all have our own strange version of art locked within us. Art does not often resemble what we think to be "art." What do you want to make that you're avoiding?
Honesty begets humility, which begets harmony
We lie to ourselves. This creates and fuels all our problems. Be truthful, become humble, and everything will fall into its right place.
Healthy habits, it all starts here
Nothing is possible without discipline. Everything is a habit - thoughts, actions, what you consume or avoid, and who you spend time with.
Nutrition & physical fitness
The mind won't function well without a strong body. Before we were thinkers, we were physical specimens, like the hairless chimp!
Travel & uncertainty
Placing yourself into foreign environments is life's greatest teacher. Learning to thrive with uncertainty will make you crave it even more.
Rich with time
Examine how you spend your money, but focus more on how you spend your time. You can always earn back money you've lost, but time doesn't follow that rule.
Pursue worthy goals
Aim higher, and don't do things you hate. Success is entirely personal. It's not up to anyone else to define for you.
Be cautious of playing it safe just to remain balanced
Intentionally become unbalanced to discover how new balance works for you. Test out the waters, you might like it.
Happiness is your default state
At some point you unknowingly decided it was easier to be unhappy than to be happy. You looked for it everywhere else, but not within you.
Desire never ends, unless you allow it to
The surest way to needlessly suffer every day is to desire the next thing, and the next thing. Love what you already have.
Abundance is suffocating
I feel burdened down by stuff. Do you? Having less is a freedom available to everyone.
Perfect products > plentiful products
I closely examine everything I bring into my life. Let's take a look at my (mostly) worthless but useful inventory!
Old things are good things
Old books, old clothes, old cups, old wisdom, old people. Don't discard or overlook the beauty in outdated oddities.
God exists, and you decide its form
You determine what to worship, and where your peace might come from. Carefully select the right Gods!
Every moment is a lesson
Your ego fools you into thinking you can't learn from certain people and unfortunate events.
Believe everything is your fault
Shed the victim mentality, and take responsibility for all of life's happenings.
Curiosity is a friend magnet
Become genuinely interested in others, and they will do the same for you. The most likeable person in the room is the curious listener.
Lighten up!
Why take yourself so seriously when you don't have to? To laugh at yourself or anything else is to take back control. What has power over you is what you determine to be off limits from humor.
You've already won the lottery
Millions of people would kill to trade places with you, including younger versions of yourself. Gratitude is born from this realization.
Let's Go!
Optimism is an infinite resource. Outstanding people are positive thinkers. Excited energy is infectious!
